This lovely family recently brought their 7 day old daughter in to our Los Angeles studio for her newborn photo session, and in our pre-shoot planning session they let me know that they are huge Star Wars fans! I love it when clients bring creative ideas to the table since it allows me to stretch my artistic muscles and deliver something truly unique to my clients!

The styling for the shoot started with a knit princess Leia bun-hairdo and cute figurines of the Star Wars characters. We set them up in various positions around our very own little sleeping princess.  Then, this dad cracked us up when he brought out his Darth Vader mask for some “I am your father” photos of him looking at his baby girl.

My favorite though, is this sweet baby’s name “Annikah” which was inspired by, of course, Anakin. Check out more Star Wars inspired baby names here.

In researching for this post I learned a bit more about Darth Vader – check out what Wikipedia had to say about the man in the black mask:

Darth Vader, born Anakin Skywalker, is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe.[1][2][3] Vader appears in the original trilogy as a pivotal figure, and his past as Anakin Skywalker is central to the prequel trilogy.

The character was created by George Lucas and has been portrayed by numerous actors. His appearances span the first six Star Wars films,[4] and he is an important character in the Star Wars expanded universe of television series, video games, novels, literature and comic books. Originally a Jedi prophesied to bring balance to the Force, he falls to the dark side of the Force and serves the evil Galactic Empire at the right hand of his Sith master, Palpatine (also known as Darth Sidious).[5] He is also the father ofLuke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa, grandfather of Kylo Ren, and secret husband of Padmé Amidala.

The American Film Institute listed him as the third greatest movie villain in cinema history on 100 Years… 100 Heroes and Villains, behind Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates.[6]
